Fleur Schell, b. 1973

Fleur Schell is an internationally renowned Ceramic Artist residing in Perth, Western Australia. The themes she references and the objects she creates are triggered by her immediate surroundings and an engagement in the lives of her two children Heidi and Harry. Their infectious joy and unwavering belief in magic continually inspires her.

 

"I tell childhood stories through clay and mixed media that reflect a time of innocence, simplicity and purity. I was sent to boarding school as a child so  themes of childhood naivety, wonder, love, freedom, and adventure and very nostalgic for me. I am grateful that my own memories of childhood have been reawakened through my children, as they share with me their perspective of a world less effected by irony, conflict or anxiety," says the artist.

 

In 2005, Fleur and her husband Richard Hill established the Premier International Ceramic Residency Program in Western Australia. Additionally, Fleur serves as the director of SODA – Sculptural Objects and Design Australia – which includes a clay workshop facility, artist studios, The Corridor Gallery and a residential apartment for visiting artists.

 

Fleur has exhibited internationally in London, Singapore, Calgary and Santiago and extensively throughout Australia.  Her work has been published in 'The Ceramics Journal' of Australia, 'Art and Perception and Object' Magazine, '500 Cups and 500 Pitchers' by Lark Books, 'Porcelain and Bone China' by Sasha Wardell, 'Craft Unbound Make The Common Precious' by Kevin Murray and 'Naked Clay' by Jane Perryman.
